The Tactical Situation Display was located immediately in front of the pilot on
the large screen. Since
we did not go to the expense of using hard buttons around the screen
periphery, the button labels were
touch sensitive to emulate the behavior of real buttons. The standby
flight display (lower left) is also normally a separate piece
of hardware, but implemented on this screen for simplicity. It was the
pilot's only instrument cue to the aircraft attitude,
speed (digital Mach 1.39) and altitude (50,000 ft)..
The display shows the tactical situation with the proposed route to the
target area in blue and known enemy defensive
positions in yellow pentagons. The pilot has enabled the radar coverage
overlay to show the limits of his radar system.
