HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. As you probably know, it is the most widespread standard for displaying content on the internet. Anyone who wants to do a little web development, from a personal page to a professional website, will use HTML. Even if you use graphical HTML editors like Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Netscape Composer, etc., eventually you will find yourself in a place where knowing the meaning of the underlying code will help you out in a pinch.
